Social Responsibility
NeighborHuddle prides itself on being a socially responsible organization and strives to set a positive example for other businesses.
One of NeighborHuddle’s founding principles is the reduction in routine paper usage in communities. Outside of a few legal obligations where paper documents are required, most communities can save a substantial amount of paper and costs by moving to electronic communications and documentation. It would be nearly impossible for our communities to go entirely paperless, so we attempt to offset their paper usage by planting five trees in honor of each community annually. NeighborHuddle partners with American Forests and their Global Re-leaf campaign to help plant native trees in rural and urban ecosystem restoration projects across the United States and around the world.
In 2007, NeighborHuddle began a partnership with trecycle, a volunteer organization that works to prevent the hundreds of thousands of Christmas trees purchased every year in Chicago from ending up in a landfill. As a sign of our commitment to eco-conscious living, NeighborHuddle helped recycle over 250 Christmas trees from our communities and the surrounding neighborhoods. We look forward to doing even more this year!
In the summer of 2008, NeighborHuddle was approached by a California-based charity, The Banana Project, to help establish the web-presence for an upcoming 2,200 mile bike ride. The ride’s purpose was to raise awareness for sustainability, Habitat For Humanity and an orphanage in Guatemala. NeighborHuddle donated their time and resources to help get this organization’s website and online donation program up and running.
