Connecting with other communities in your area

After several years on my association’s board and many conversations with board members from other associations, I’ve learned a couple things about community leadership. First, a large number of board members have very little board experience. Second, there are not a lot of informal resources to connect board members across communities. NeighborHuddle’s unique architecture allows your community to connect with others in your area to reduce the impact of these factors on your association.

It’s no surprise that people are not waiting in line to give away their free time for a non-paying and often thankless job. Unfortunately, a large number of board members hold offices because they actually showed up to a meeting or maybe because they expressed the slightest interest in something about the community. I’m not afraid to say that that is how I got my start.

As an inexperienced board member, I tried my best to understand my duties and continuously educate myself. I classified myself as a “casual” board member and didn’t plan on spending my evenings/weekends attending seminars or training sessions on the subject. What I really wanted was a place where I could network and learn from other board members on my own schedule and that’s where NeighborHuddle’s “Community Connection” forum was born.

NeighborHuddle’s Community Connection forum is available within every community’s site and provides the ability for residents and board members alike to reach out to other communities in the area for advice, contractor referrals and just about anything else. This is one feature that sets NeighborHuddle apart from a typical community website and the knowledge and benefit gained from it can be invaluable. Whether your a seasoned veteran of board operations or it’s your first day as an officer, NeighborHuddle’s Community Connection forum is a great asset to have in your corner.
